Our featured artist of the day is Ana Bernal aka Ana The Night Owl.  She’s from Alhambra, California, and owns and operates Tierra Dulce  (www.tierradulceshop.etsy.com) on Etsy and the blog titled  Ana The Night Owl (www.anathenightowl.com ) .

Ana has been an Etsy member since 2009, but started selling her precious and unique items in October 2011. All business owners have a specialty that they operate from which informs that what direction to focus on. When I asked Ana what her specialty was she shared with me:

Our Lady Virgin Mary of Guadalupe with starburst Catholic Statute Hand-painted Chalk Statue 1979-1980   $30.00 USD http://www.etsy.com/listing/91867547/our-lady-virgin-mary-of-guadalupe-with?ref=v1_other_2

“I mainly focus on Mexican-American arts and crafts, but I also have a passion for making candy and chocolate designs, but I am open enough to allow more than just Mexican inspired crafts . I have a strong interest in creating things that are just different.”

Mexican Day of the Dead Dia de los Muertos Sugar Skulls Mini Candy Handcrafted (12 Count) $12.50 USD http://www.etsy.com/listing/83621009/mexican-day-of-the-dead-dia-de-los

All business owners have a sense of what makes them stand out. I asked Ana that very same question and she shared with me : “I feel that some of the items that we make at Tierra Dulce Shop represent the culture I was raised in. I have Sugar Skulls that you can actually eat . Many sugar skulls are used for decoration during Day of the Dead celebrations.”

Rainbow Heart Chocolates Handcrafted (30 count) $8.00 USD http://www.etsy.com/listing/93288617/rainbow-heart-chocolates-handcrafted-30?ref=v1_other_1

“And Rainbow chocolates; that is pretty different . Projects my sister Martha contributes are in the shop as well. We are not bound to one box – as long as we are creating, it is what makes us happy — and a little less “insane”, I’m joking.”

Everyone has a dream. When you own a business it is always driven by a dream; a destination you want to journey to or something you want to attain.

St. Joseph with Baby Jesus Hand Painted Chalk Indoor Statuette Vintage 1979-1980$25.00 USD http://www.etsy.com/listing/91766071/st-joseph-with-baby-jesus-hand-painted?ref=v1_other_1

I asked Ana what hopes she had for the future and this is what she shared with me:

I hope to create more projects for Tierra Dulce Shop – and introduce more creative works in edibles and arts and crafts. Another fascination of mine is Stained Glass and I would love to incorporate it more in the future. Also,I hope the future is bright, and we can use this adventure to help my sister and I be more creative and be able to grow a successful business together.”

Ana, thank you for sharing with us your precious and unique Tierra Dulce Shop (www.tierradulceshop.etsy.com ) . We wish much continued success.
